Short Description

Alminox ALM / H2397 Electrical Jointing Compound is a conductive compound for aluminium electrical connections.

The same Alminox product is referenced as ALM by Preformed Line Products (PLP) and H2397 by TE Connectivity / Utilux.

It contains conductive zinc particles suspended in a grease base. Under compression, the particles help penetrate aluminium oxide film, while the compound seals the joint against air and moisture.

Recommended for aluminium-to-aluminium bolted and compression connections.

Description

Alminox ALM / H2397 Electrical Jointing Compound

Alminox jointing compound is a conductive compound designed for aluminium electrical connections.

This product is commonly identified by two part numbers:

  • ALM – Preformed Line Products (PLP)
  • H2397 – TE Connectivity / Utilux

Both references relate to the Alminox electrical jointing compound used for aluminium connection applications.

The compound contains conductive zinc particles suspended in a grease base. During installation, the zinc particles help penetrate the oxide film that naturally forms on aluminium surfaces.

At the same time, the grease helps exclude air and moisture from the joint. As a result, Alminox helps minimise further oxidation and corrosion.

Alminox Jointing Compound Features

  • PLP part number ALM
  • TE Connectivity / Utilux part number H2397
  • Conductive jointing compound for aluminium
  • Contains conductive zinc particles
  • Helps penetrate aluminium oxide film
  • Helps exclude air and moisture
  • Assists in reducing oxidation and corrosion
  • Suitable for bolted and compression connections
  • Designed for electrical jointing applications

For additional technical information on H2397, refer to the TE Connectivity Utilux H2397 product information.

ALM / H2397 Aluminium Jointing Applications

Alminox ALM / H2397 suits applications where aluminium forms part of the electrical connection.

Typical applications include:

  • Aluminium compression connections
  • Aluminium-to-aluminium bolted connections
  • Aluminium cable lugs and links
  • Overhead distribution connections
  • Utility electrical systems
  • Mining installations
  • Industrial electrical systems
  • Infrastructure projects

Always follow the connector manufacturer’s preparation, crimping and installation instructions.

How Alminox Jointing Compound Works

Aluminium develops an oxide layer quickly when exposed to air. This oxide film has poor electrical conductivity and can affect the quality of an electrical connection.

When the joint comes under pressure, the conductive zinc particles in Alminox help create contact through the remaining oxide film.

Meanwhile, the grease base helps protect the prepared surfaces from further exposure to air and moisture.

Correct Surface Preparation

Correct conductor preparation remains important when using ALM or H2397.

Remove dirt, grease and oxide film using the preparation method specified for the connector and conductor.

Where scratch brushing is required, use a brush dedicated to aluminium conductors to avoid transferring copper or other metallic particles onto the aluminium surface.

Apply the jointing compound and complete the connection in accordance with the connector manufacturer’s instructions.
