Termco Bell Mouth Copper Lugs

Description

Termco Copper Bell Mouth Lugs – are made with a flared cable entry (similar looking to a bell) to suit flexible cables, that when de-sheathed, often fray and become difficult to insert into the correct size copper tube.

Overall, the flared entry allows for ease of insertion of any cable without having to go up a lug size and risking a weaker crimp connection. These are available in 10mm² – 300mm² with other sizes available made to order.

In addition, all Termco Copper Lugs and Links are made to the highest possible specifications and are electro tinned finished. Manufactured to Australian dimensions, the Termco Copper Lugs and Links comply with Australian Standards AS/NZS4325.1 and is fully compatible with existing Australian tooling.

Key Features:
  • Flared Entry
  • Made to Australian standards AS/NZS4325.1
  • 99.9% Conductivity by I.A.C.S standards
  • Works with existing Australian tooling
  • Suitable for connecting copper conductors in both indoor and outdoor applications
  • Electro Tinned
  • For Cables: 10mm² – 300mm²

Description

Termco Bell Mouth Copper Lugs

In short, Termco TCLB Bell Mouth Copper Lugs are copper compression lugs featuring a flared or bell-mouth cable entry. The enlarged entry helps guide flexible and stranded copper conductors into the barrel, particularly where individual strands can spread after the cable insulation has been removed.

As a result, the bell-mouth design assists conductor insertion without requiring a larger compression barrel purely to accommodate spread strands. This helps maintain the correct relationship between the conductor size, lug barrel and specified crimping die.

Overall, Termco Bell Mouth Copper Lugs are electro-tinned, manufactured to Australian dimensions and available for copper conductor sizes from 10mm² to 300mm². The range includes multiple stud-hole options depending on cable size.

Why Use Bell Mouth Copper Lugs?

In practice, flexible and finely stranded copper conductors can be more difficult to insert into a conventional straight-entry compression lug because the conductor strands may spread or fray after stripping.

For this reason, the flared entry of a bell mouth copper lug provides a larger lead-in area that helps gather the conductor strands and guide them into the compression barrel.

This makes bell mouth lugs particularly useful for:

  • Flexible copper conductors
  • Stranded copper cables
  • Switchboard connections
  • Industrial electrical installations
  • Power distribution equipment
  • Equipment where easier conductor insertion is required

Selecting the Correct Bell Mouth Lug

Select the lug according to:

  1. Copper conductor size
  2. Required stud-hole diameter
  3. Equipment termination dimensions
  4. Correct crimping die for the conductor and lug

For example, TCLB95-12 is a bell mouth lug for a 95mm² copper conductor with a 12mm stud hole.

In every case, always use the correct compression die and crimping method for the selected lug and conductor.
