Description
Cembre Uninsulated Pin Connectors – PCU Series
Cembre uninsulated pin connectors provide a flat pin termination for copper conductors from 10mm² to 70mm².
In Australia, these terminals are commonly identified as PCU10, PCU16, PCU25, PCU35, PCU50 and PCU70. However, Cembre identifies the genuine manufacturer range as A-P.
Engineering Supplies shows both references so customers can order using the familiar Australian PCU number while still identifying the corresponding genuine Cembre product.
PCU Uninsulated Pin Connectors – Cembre A-P Cross Reference
| Australian P/N | Cembre P/N | Nominal Conductor Size | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| PCU10 | A2-P12 | 10mm² | Uninsulated |
| PCU16 | A3-P14 | 16mm² | Uninsulated |
| PCU25 | A5-P16 | 25mm² | Uninsulated |
| PCU35 | A7-P20 | 35mm² | Uninsulated |
| PCU50 | A10-P25 | 50mm² | Uninsulated |
| PCU70 | A14-P30 | 70mm² | Uninsulated |
For example, the Australian PCU16 reference corresponds to Cembre A3-P14.
Likewise, PCU35 corresponds to A7-P20, while PCU70 corresponds to A14-P30.
Cembre’s current manufacturer data confirms the six A-P sizes from A2-P12 through to A14-P30.
PCU Uninsulated vs PC Insulated Cembre Pin Connectors
The Australian PC and PCU ranges are different products and should not be confused.
PC Series – Insulated Pin Connectors
PC10, PC16, PC25 and PC35 correspond to Cembre’s ANE-P pre-insulated flat pin terminals. These products have black PA6.6 insulation around the conductor barrel.
PCU Series – Uninsulated Pin Connectors
PCU10 through PCU70 correspond to Cembre’s A-P uninsulated flat pin terminals. These terminals have an exposed tinned copper barrel and no insulation sleeve.
Therefore:
PC = Insulated
PCU = Uninsulated
This distinction is especially important when replacing an existing terminal or ordering against an Australian equipment schedule.
Cembre A-P Uninsulated Pin Connector Features
The Cembre A-P range features:
- Uninsulated flat pin terminal design
- Suitable for copper conductors
- Sizes from 10mm² to 70mm²
- High-purity electrolytic copper construction
- Electrolytic tin-plated surface
- Annealed construction
- Brazed seam
- Flat pin connection
- Operating temperature from -50°C to +150°C
- RoHS compliant
Cembre states that the terminals use electrolytic copper strip with purity above 99.9%. In addition, the silver-alloy brazing, annealing and electrolytic tinning processes help make the terminals easier to compress and improve mechanical resistance.
PCU Uninsulated Pin Connector Sizes & Dimensions
| Australian P/N | Cembre P/N | Size | Pin Width B | Pin Length P | Overall L | Barrel Ø | Strip Length |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PCU10 | A2-P12 | 10mm² | 4.3mm | 14.5mm | 23.5mm | 4.8mm | 10mm |
| PCU16 | A3-P14 | 16mm² | 5.5mm | 18mm | 28mm | 5.9mm | 11mm |
| PCU25 | A5-P16 | 25mm² | 7mm | 20.3mm | 32mm | 7mm | 13mm |
| PCU35 | A7-P20 | 35mm²* | 8mm | 24.5mm | 39mm | 8.9mm | 16mm |
| PCU50 | A10-P25 | 50mm²* | 9.5mm | 26mm | 45mm | 9.6mm | 21mm |
| PCU70 | A14-P30 | 70mm²* | 11mm | 31mm | 55mm | 11.4mm | 27mm |
These dimensions come directly from Cembre’s current A-P technical data.
*For flexible conductors, Cembre provides additional conductor ranges for the larger terminals. Always check the cable construction as well as the nominal conductor size.
Flexible Conductor Sizes for Cembre Pin Connectors
For the larger A-P terminals, Cembre lists specific flexible-conductor ranges:
- PCU35 / A7-P20: 25–35mm² flexible
- PCU50 / A10-P25: 35–50mm² flexible
- PCU70 / A14-P30: 50–70mm² flexible
Meanwhile, Cembre identifies their nominal low-stranded conductor sizes as 35mm², 50mm² and 70mm² respectively.
Therefore, avoid selecting the terminal solely from the PCU number where unusual cable construction or highly flexible conductor is involved.
Uninsulated Pin Connectors for Switchgear
The A-P design suits equipment that uses a flat connection with a movable clamping plate. Cembre specifically identifies this type of equipment connection as an intended application for the range.
Typical applications can include:
- Switchboards
- Switchgear
- Circuit breakers
- Control panels
- Power distribution equipment
- Industrial machinery
- Electrical equipment
- Terminal connections
- Flexible cable terminations
The flat pin allows a larger conductor to terminate into equipment where a conventional large cable lug palm may not suit the available connection.
However, always check the equipment manufacturer’s terminal requirements before selecting the connector.
Choosing PCU10 to PCU70 Pin Connectors
For standard nominal conductor sizes, the Australian references make selection straightforward:
10mm² → PCU10 / Cembre A2-P12
16mm² → PCU16 / Cembre A3-P14
25mm² → PCU25 / Cembre A5-P16
35mm² → PCU35 / Cembre A7-P20
50mm² → PCU50 / Cembre A10-P25
70mm² → PCU70 / Cembre A14-P30
Nevertheless, conductor size is only one part of the selection.
Also check:
- Cable construction
- Conductor flexibility
- Barrel dimensions
- Pin width
- Pin length
- Equipment terminal dimensions
- Required crimping system
As a result, you can confirm both electrical and mechanical compatibility before installation.
Crimping Cembre PCU Pin Connectors
Use a correctly matched crimping tool and die system for the Cembre A-P terminal and conductor.
The required crimp arrangement can vary according to terminal size and cable construction. Therefore, do not select a crimp die from conductor size alone.
Engineering Supplies can assist with matching the terminal to the appropriate Cembre Crimping and Cutting Tools.
