Description
GFG galvanised deadend grips
GFG galvanised deadend grips terminate specified galvanised steel conductors, guy wires and stays. The range matches the material of the conductor it grips. Nine priced options are available on this page, from GFG-048-CL through GFG-188.
These preformed fittings use a helical shape to grip along the conductor. However, selection depends on the full strand construction as well as diameter. The grip must also match the conductor’s lay direction. Therefore, check the conductor schedule before choosing a size.
Galvanised deadend grip sizes
The table combines the current store SKUs with the catalogue conductor details. Diameters are in millimetres. For GFG-100, the two listed diameters correspond to two different strand constructions.
| Store SKU | Conductor stranding | Diameter (mm) | Colour code |
|---|---|---|---|
| PLPGFG-048-CL | 7/1.60 | 4.80 | Black |
| PLPGFG-060CL | 7/2.00 | 6.00 | Yellow |
| PLPGFG-083-CL | 7/2.75 | 8.25 | White |
| PLPGFG-100 | 7/3.25 or 19/2.00 | 9.75 or 10.00 | Orange/Yellow |
| PLPGFG-113-CL | 7/3.75 | 11.25 | Black |
| PLPGFG-120 | 7/4.00 | 12.00 | Black |
| PLPGFG-138 | 19/2.75 | 13.75 | White |
| PLPGFG-163 | 19/3.25 | 16.25 | Orange |
| PLPGFG-188 | 19/3.75 | 18.80 | Black |
For reference, GFG-048-CL suits the 7/1.60 conductor entry, while GFG-060-CL suits 7/2.00. Both use seven strands, but their wire sizes and overall diameters differ. Therefore, check all three details when comparing these smaller options.
Choose by part number and conductor
Colour marks help identify a grip and indicate the application starting point. However, several sizes share a colour. For example, black appears on four options in this listing. Use the full GFG code and conductor details together when selecting stock.
- First, confirm that the conductor is the specified galvanised steel type.
- Then check its strand count, wire size and overall diameter.
- Next, match its lay direction to the deadend fitting.
- Finally, confirm the required attachment, thimble or other hardware from the project drawing.
For GFG-100, 7/3.25 corresponds to the 9.75 mm entry, while 19/2.00 corresponds to 10.00 mm. Consequently, a diameter reading alone does not describe the complete conductor construction.
Installation and documentation
Follow the current PLP instructions for the exact fitting and application. In addition, handle the preformed rods carefully and store them in cartons under cover. PLP requires qualified line workers to install these fittings and prohibits modifying them.
The selection tables do not state individual working loads or grip lengths. Therefore, confirm those details from the applicable drawing or manufacturer instructions if your project requires them.
For reference, see printed page 19 of the PLP distribution catalogue and printed page 127 of the Engineering Supplies catalogue.
