Raytech Magic Rubber – Electrical Insulating Rubber

In Stock

Raytech Magic Rubber is a fast-setting two-component insulating rubber for electrical joints, connections and enclosures up to 1kV.

Once mixed, the fluid compound flows around the connection before forming a flexible, elastic and re-enterable rubber insulation.

It provides dielectric strength above 20kV/mm, cross-links in approximately 15 minutes at 23°C and can help achieve IP68 protection when used in a suitable enclosure.

Available in 200g and 500g packs.

Description

Raytech Magic Rubber

Raytech Magic Rubber is a two-component liquid insulating rubber designed for electrical connections, cable joints and enclosure filling.

Before curing, the material remains fluid and conformable, allowing it to flow around cables, terminals and other components. After mixing, however, it cross-links rapidly and forms a flexible and elastic rubber insulation.

Raytech also describes the cured material as re-enterable, which allows access to the connection again if future inspection or maintenance is required.

Magic Rubber Features

Key features include:

  • Two-component liquid insulating rubber
  • Suitable for electrical installations up to 1kV
  • Flexible and elastic after curing
  • Re-enterable
  • Fast cross-linking
  • Approximately 15-minute cross-linking time at 23°C
  • Dielectric strength above 20kV/mm
  • Volume resistivity above 2 × 10¹⁵ Ω cm
  • Low smoke emission
  • Low toxic and corrosive gas emission
  • Suitable for casting and moulding applications
  • IP68 protection when used in a suitable casing
  • Raytech states no shelf life

As a result, the product provides an alternative to rigid encapsulating compounds where both electrical insulation and flexibility are required.

Available Magic Rubber Sizes

Engineering Supplies currently offers two options on this page:

Part NumberProductPack SizeColour
MAGIC-RUBBERMagic Rubber500gBlack
RUBBERFLUID200Rubber Fluid200gBlack

Both are currently listed as active variations on the Engineering Supplies website.

The 500g Magic Rubber pack uses a two-component format with mixing accessories. In comparison, Rubber Fluid 200 comes in a convenient two-component single-dose bag. Raytech also manufactures larger pack sizes, although these are not currently listed on your WooCommerce page.

Fast-Curing Electrical Insulation

Magic Rubber uses a 1:1 mixing ratio for its two components.

Raytech’s installation sequence is straightforward:

  1. Mix the two components in a 1:1 ratio.
  2. Mix for no more than approximately 30 seconds.
  3. Pour the compound into the enclosure.
  4. Allow the material to cross-link into flexible rubber.

At 23°C, Raytech specifies a cross-linking time of approximately 15 minutes. Therefore, the connection can be encapsulated relatively quickly compared with many traditional casting systems.

Flexible & Re-Enterable Rubber Insulation

One of the main advantages of Magic Rubber is that it does not form the same rigid mass as a traditional hard-setting resin.

Instead, the cured material remains flexible and elastic. Furthermore, Raytech specifically describes it as re-enterable.

Consequently, the product suits installations where the connection may need to tolerate movement or where future access could be required.

Electrical Joint Applications up to 1kV

Raytech specifies Magic Rubber for installations up to 1kV.

Typical applications include:

  • Cable joints
  • Electrical connections
  • Junction boxes
  • Electrical enclosures
  • Cable terminations
  • Industrial electrical equipment
  • Underground electrical systems
  • Utilities
  • Infrastructure
  • Mining installations
  • Maintenance and repair work

Because the material remains fluid before cross-linking, it can also flow around irregular components and fill voids inside a suitable casing.

IP68 Electrical Protection

Raytech specifies IP68 performance when Magic Rubber is poured into a suitable casing.

Importantly, the IP68 claim applies to the complete protected enclosure rather than to loose rubber compound on its own. Therefore, the casing and installation method remain part of the overall protection system.

Magic Rubber vs Magic Gel

Raytech Magic Gel and Magic Rubber are both two-component electrical insulating compounds, but the cured materials behave differently.

Magic Rubber forms a flexible elastomeric rubber after cross-linking.

In comparison, Magic Gel forms a soft insulating gel designed to remain easily re-enterable.

Therefore, the preferred product depends on the mechanical properties, enclosure design and servicing requirements of the installation.

Magic Rubber vs Magic Power Gel

Raytech Magic Power Gel is another two-component insulating product.

However, Magic Power Gel cures into a gel rather than a rubber. Magic Rubber, meanwhile, provides substantially more rubber-like mechanical and elastic characteristics after cross-linking.

This makes the two products useful for different types of electrical sealing and encapsulation.
