Description
Utilux SL68 Aluminium Lug
The Utilux SL68 is an aluminium compression terminal lug for compatible AAC, AAAC and ACSR conductors with an outside diameter between 14 and 16mm.
It forms part of the Utilux Type SL overhead sleeves and lugs system. Utilux manufactures the SL range from extruded aluminium tube and pre-fills the barrel with electrical jointing compound before packing.
The manufacturer specifies Type SL lugs for non-tension electrical connections and allows installation using the correct hexagonal or indent compression tooling.

SL68 for Railway Applications
The Utilux SL68 lug is used in railway electrical applications, including applications associated with overhead line and railway electrification infrastructure.
For rail projects, always confirm the exact lug, conductor, tooling and installation requirements against the applicable network or project specification.
Engineering Supplies does not recommend substituting a different lug solely because the conductor diameter appears similar where a project specifically calls for Utilux SL68.
That wording is important. It targets:
- SL68 rail lug
- Utilux SL68 railway
- SL68 railway lug
- railway aluminium lug
without claiming that the product has blanket approval across every Australian railway network.
AAC, AAAC & ACSR Conductors
Utilux recommends the Type SL family for AAC, AAAC and ACSR conductors, including conventional and smooth-body conductor designs.
The Utilux conductor application table specifically associates SL68 with Neptune 19/3.25 AAC conductor and identifies 38-220AL as the corresponding die for that conductor/application combination.
However, do not select the crimp die from conductor outside diameter alone. Always check the actual conductor construction against the Utilux application table before crimping.
SL68 Crimping & Installation
Utilux designs Type SL terminals for installation using the specified hexagonal or indent crimping system.
For aluminium compression connections, correct preparation and die selection are essential.
Engineering Supplies can assist with:
- Conductor identification
- Utilux die selection
- Hydraulic crimping tools
- Aluminium compression dies
- Jointing compound
- Installation information
For compatible professional crimping equipment, see our Utilux Crimping Tools range.
For aluminium connection preparation, see Alminox ALM / H2397 Electrical Jointing Compound.
SL68 vs SL68M16
The standard SL68 and SL68M16 belong to the same SL68 product family but provide different palm connection arrangements.
Where the project specifically calls for an M16 palm connection, see the dedicated Utilux SL68M16 Aluminium Lug product page.
Because these products can appear on rail project material lists by exact part number, always confirm whether the requirement specifies SL68 or SL68M16 before ordering.
