Follow the three operations shown in this Cembre rail bonding tutorial: drilling a 19 mm hole through the rail web, installing an AR60D bush connection and crimping the bonding lug. The demonstration brings together the LD-16B-RP rail drill, CY190 broach cutter, B1300TEP installation tool and B1300C crimping tool.
What this demonstration covers
The video follows the connection from hole preparation through to fitting the crimped lug. Watch the full sequence, or use these chapter links:
- 0:20 — Rail drill introduction and setup
- 5:13 — AR60D rail web bush installation
- 8:40 — Lug crimping tool introduction
19 mm rail drilling with the LD-16B-RP and CY190
The rail web is the upright section between the rail head and foot. In this demonstration, the LD-16B-RP battery rail drill uses a CY190 broach cutter to make the 19 mm hole required for the AR60D connection.
The operator installs the cutter, prepares the rail-profile template and clamps the drill to the rail. The coolant connection is attached before drilling begins. Once the hole is complete, the operator retracts the cutter and removes the drill.
AR60D installation with the B1300TEP
With drilling complete, the operator checks the hole with a gauge before preparing the AR60D bush for installation.
The B1300TEP installation tool installs the AR60D in the rail web. The installed bush provides the attachment point for the bonding lug shown later in the video.
Rail lug crimping with the B1300C
The operator introduces the B1300C crimping tool, places the conductor into the lug and crimps the connection. The crimped lug is then fitted to the installed AR60D bush.
Refer to the applicable Cembre and connector instructions for crimp tooling and final tightening requirements.
Equipment used in the demonstration
Australian battery tool supply codes include a T suffix to denote the Australian-version charger. The table uses Engineering Supplies’ listed product codes and spelling. CY190 and AR60D retain their original codes.
| Product | Role in the demonstration |
|---|---|
| LD-16B-RPT battery rail drill | Drills the rail web; shown as LD-16B-RP in the video. |
| CY broach cutters, including CY190 | CY190 produces the demonstrated 19 mm hole. |
| AR60D rail web bush connection | Installed in the drilled rail web. |
| B1300TEP-T installation tool | Installs the AR60D connection. |
| B1300-CT crimping tool | Crimps the lug; shown as B1300C in the video. |
Written summary: key moments
This edited summary highlights the main operations in the demonstration.
- 4:13 — Drilling: With the drill clamped and coolant connected, the operator drills through the rail web, then retracts the cutter.
- 5:13 — Bush installation: The hole is checked with a gauge before the AR60D is installed using the B1300TEP.
- 10:02 — Crimping: The conductor is placed into the lug and the B1300C performs the crimp.
- 10:41 — Fitting the lug: The crimped lug is fitted to the installed bush connection.
Frequently asked questions
What hole size does the demonstration show?
It shows a 19 mm hole drilled with a CY190 broach cutter for the AR60D rail web bush connection.
Does the same tool install the bush and crimp the lug?
The demonstration uses the B1300TEP to install the AR60D bush and a separate B1300C to crimp the lug.
Where can I find the correct tooling and tightening details?
Refer to the applicable Cembre and connector instructions. See Cembre’s AR60D product information and instructions, or ask Engineering Supplies for technical assistance.
