Utilux Bi-Metal Crimp Links
Utilux bi-metal links provide a purpose-designed solution for joining aluminium conductors to copper conductors in-line.
Each link combines an aluminium barrel section with a copper barrel section. Utilux joins the two metals using friction welding to form a strong electrical and mechanical connection.
The BKH1 range includes both same-size and reducing links, allowing different aluminium and copper conductor sizes to be joined where the selected link and crimping system suit the application.

The first conductor size refers to the aluminium side of the connection, while the second refers to the copper side.
For example, a BK95/70 link joins a 95mm² aluminium conductor to a 70mm² copper conductor.
Aluminium to Copper In-Line Connections
Directly joining aluminium and copper conductors requires a connector designed for the transition between the two metals.
The Utilux design keeps the aluminium conductor within the aluminium section of the link and the copper conductor within the copper section. A friction-welded joint connects the two sections.
In addition, Utilux supplies the aluminium barrel pre-filled with jointing compound to assist with the aluminium termination.
Correct Crimping Tool & Dies
The aluminium and copper sections of a bi-metal link have different crimping requirements.
Therefore, always use the specified crimping die for each side of the connector and follow the Utilux crimp sequence and installation instructions.
Do not select tooling by conductor size alone. The required die depends on the connector, conductor construction and barrel dimensions.
For non-standard, compacted or flexible conductors, confirm compatibility before installation.
