Specifically, the Cembre ECW-H3D is a heavy-duty hydraulic crimping head for electrical connectors on conductors from 10 to 630 mm².
It develops 230 kN of nominal crimping force and connects to a suitable hydraulic pump through an automatic-locking male quick coupler. Therefore, the head provides a powerful solution for large cable lugs, connectors and electrical terminations.

ECW-H3D Hydraulic Crimping Head
In particular, the hydraulic head uses a U-shaped design with a removable retaining pin for fitting the required crimping dies.
Its hydraulic system operates at a maximum pressure of 700 bar. In addition, the head requires approximately 91 cm³ of hydraulic oil displacement for operation.
Generally, the quick-connect hydraulic coupling allows operators to connect the head to a suitable Cembre hydraulic, pneumatic or electro-hydraulic pump.

Depending on the connector and selected die, the head supports several crimping profiles, including:

ECW-H3D Crimping Die Compatibility
In general, the head accepts standard die sets used with compatible Cembre 230 kN crimping tools and heads.
In addition, Cembre offers an adapter system that allows the head to use compatible semi-circular dies from its 130 kN tooling range.
Furthermore, this provides additional flexibility for organisations that already operate other Cembre hydraulic crimping equipment.
Cembre also offers dedicated dies for DIN-compliant electrical connectors.
Crimping dies and adapters are sold separately unless otherwise specified.
Hydraulic Cutting Die Capability
The ECW-H3D can do more than crimp electrical connectors.
With the appropriate Cembre cutting dies, the hydraulic head can also support cutting applications for compatible:
- Copper conductors
- Aluminium conductors
- Aldrey conductors
- Aluminium-steel conductors
Therefore, the head can form part of a flexible hydraulic tooling system for both crimping and selected conductor cutting applications.
Always confirm the correct cutting die and conductor compatibility before use.
ECW-H3D 700 Bar Hydraulic Operation
In essence, the head requires a compatible hydraulic pump with a maximum operating pressure of 700 bar.
Its automatic-locking male quick coupler provides a fast hydraulic connection. As a result, operators can connect and disconnect the head from compatible Cembre hydraulic equipment when the system is fully depressurised.
Consequently, a hydraulic pump is not included with the head and must be selected separately.
