Cembre Battery Rail Saw: Meet the INFINITY36 at InnoTrans 2026

Cembre showcased its new battery rail saw for the first time at InnoTrans 2026, introducing an exciting addition to its railway maintenance equipment range.

The exhibition flyer names the saw INFINITY36 RDS-36B, while the display unit carries the model designation RDS-36BN-S. It combines a 72V brushless motor with two of Cembre’s latest 36V 10Ah tabless batteries.

In addition, the saw features a beltless shaft drive and practical operator controls. The new batteries will also work with Cembre’s existing 36V platform, extending their benefits to compatible equipment already in service.

We’re looking forward to getting one into Australia and seeing how it performs on local rail.

Two 36V Batteries Power a 72V Brushless Motor

The INFINITY36 uses two 36V 10Ah batteries together to power its 72V brushless motor. As a result, the rail saw achieves a higher operating voltage while retaining individual batteries from Cembre’s 36V platform.

The motor drives the cutting disc through a beltless shaft drive. According to Cembre’s exhibition flyer, the saw delivers cutting times comparable to petrol disc saws.

Meanwhile, battery operation removes the need for a combustion engine or an external power cable at the saw. Cembre identifies railway construction, infrastructure maintenance and tram lines among its intended applications. The flyer also lists compatibility with Vignole and tram rails.

New 36V 10Ah Tabless Battery Technology

One of the most interesting developments is Cembre’s new LiHD tabless battery technology.

The batteries increase capacity from 8.0Ah to 10.0Ah within the same casing. They also provide improved heat dissipation and power delivery. This represents a 25% increase in rated amp-hour capacity without increasing the casing size.

Furthermore, the new batteries will support Cembre’s existing 36V platform. Current users can therefore bring the benefits of the new technology to compatible tools they already own.

The battery shown at InnoTrans carries the part number CB36100LT-R and a rating of 36V, 10.0Ah.

How Many Rail Cuts Can It Make?

Information shared at the showcase indicated just over eight minutes of cutting operation from a fully charged battery pair. With an experienced operator, this could deliver approximately three to four cuts through 68 kg rail.

Separately, Cembre’s flyer lists over five cuts on 60E1 rail for expert operators. However, that figure relates to a different rail profile, so it does not directly compare with the estimate for 68 kg rail.

Actual results will depend on several factors. For example, operator technique, rail grade, disc selection and disc wear can all affect cutting performance. Battery condition also plays a part.

These initial figures provide a useful starting point for assessing the saw’s potential. Nevertheless, local testing will help establish how it performs under Australian working conditions.

Practical Features for Rail Maintenance Teams

The INFINITY36 includes several features for everyday rail maintenance work.

A quick-change disc holder and onboard wrench support disc changes. In addition, the hub and disc guard help optimise disc utilisation.

For maintenance and diagnostics, the saw includes a display with a cycle counter. This gives operators and service teams another source of information when assessing tool use.

Cembre also describes the frame as balanced and compact for work in restricted spaces. The flyer lists dimensions of 753 × 393 × 264 mm and a weight of 16.8 kg including battery.

Operator features include an arm monitoring system and an optional dual-button control requiring both hands. Meanwhile, the yellow body and reflectors help improve visibility on site.

Battery Protection and Cooling

Rail cutting places demanding loads on both the tool and its batteries. To help manage these demands, Cembre has incorporated a vibration-damping system at the battery contacts and protection against battery impacts.

The saw also uses forced-air cooling to help prevent overheating. In addition, the flyer lists an IP44M protection rating.

Together, these features complement the new tabless battery technology. We’ll be interested to assess their performance when the saw reaches Australia.

Cembre Battery Rail Saw Specifications

The table below brings together details from the exhibition flyer, the display model’s nameplate and information shared at the showcase.

FeatureDetail

The 100 m/s figure refers to the cutting disc’s speed rating, rather than the saw’s operating rim speed.

Also, the flyer specifies a 350 mm disc, while the display model’s nameplate shows a 355 mm maximum. These figures describe different specifications. Before selecting discs, confirm compatibility with Cembre’s final production documentation.

Equipment Package and Accessories

The flyer lists packages containing the saw, an SA-RDS36 support arm, two CB36100LT-R tabless batteries and a region-specific charger.

For transport and storage, Cembre also lists an optional VAL-RDS36 blow-moulded hard plastic carrying case. However, Cembre still needs to confirm the final Australian package and charger configuration.

Expected Availability in Early 2027

At the InnoTrans showcase, Cembre indicated an expected release in early 2027. Final release timing and Australian availability remain subject to confirmation.

With its 72V brushless motor, beltless drive and new tabless batteries, the INFINITY36 offers plenty to explore. Moreover, compatibility with existing Cembre 36V equipment makes the battery development particularly valuable for current users.

We’re looking forward to getting one into Australia, putting it to work and sharing the results.
