Description

AWFG single-piece ACSR deadends

PLP AWFG single-piece ACSR deadends provide a preformed termination for the specified aluminium conductors with steel reinforcement. This page offers four sizes with conductor diameters of 7.50, 9.00, 11.25 and 14.30 mm. Each option has its own part number and colour code.

The helical grip follows the conductor strands. PLP designs its preformed deadends to grip evenly and limit distortion. However, correct selection requires more than an outside diameter measurement. Therefore, match the conductor construction and the direction of its strand lay to the fitting as well.

Single-piece ACSR deadend sizes

The table uses the conductor arrangements published by PLP. Where a row gives two alternatives, either listed construction appears in that manufacturer’s entry. Store SKUs add the PLP prefix to the catalogue code.

Store SKUConductor strandingDiameter (mm)Colour code

PLPAWFG-090-X6/1/3.00 or 4/3/3.009.00Red

For example, AWFG-075-X and AWFG-143-X both carry blue marks, despite their different sizes. Therefore, read the complete part number when checking stock or preparing an order. However, the colour helps identification without replacing the conductor match.

Confirm the required termination

  • First, check the ACSR conductor code and its aluminium and steel strand details.
  • Then compare its diameter with the matching catalogue entry.
  • Next, confirm the lay direction. The grip and conductor must have the same lay.
  • Finally, check the required mechanical duty and attachment hardware against the project specification.

The AWFG selection table identifies these as single-piece ACSR fittings. It does not provide an individual working load for the four options. Consequently, confirm the required holding performance with Engineering Supplies before using an AWFG grip for a specified tension duty.

For comparison, the separate FTG range covers multi-piece full tension ACSR deadends. Therefore, use the fitting specified for the conductor and project. Similar diameters do not establish that two ranges are interchangeable.

Handling and reference information

Follow the current PLP installation instructions for the exact part. In addition, keep the grips in their cartons under cover and handle them carefully before use. PLP requires qualified line workers to install these precision fittings and prohibits modifying them.

You can check the AWFG table on printed page 18 of the PLP distribution catalogue. Its general deadend guidance also explains the need to match conductor size, type and lay.
