Conductor Line Splice for AAC, AAAC Conductors

In Stock

AFS conductor line splices join or repair suitable AAC and AAAC overhead conductors. Choose the exact fitting from the five strand constructions below.

  • Options: AFS-090, AFS-143, AFS-163, AFS-175 and AFS-188
  • Listed conductor diameters: 9.00, 14.25, 16.25, 17.50 and 18.75 mm
  • Part-specific red, blue, orange or black identification marks

Match the conductor and required joint performance before ordering. PLP requires confirmation for any ACSR application; the AAC/AAAC size table does not establish ACSR suitability.

Description

AFS conductor line splice for AAC and AAAC

An AFS conductor line splice joins two conductor ends or repairs a suitable damaged section of an overhead line. This range covers the specified AAC and AAAC constructions in the table below. AAC uses aluminium strands, while AAAC uses aluminium alloy strands.

The preformed helical rods form the splice around the conductor. However, the fitting must match the conductor construction and the intended joint or repair. Therefore, check the strand details as well as the overall diameter before choosing an AFS part.

Conductor line splice sizes

Five priced options are available on this page. The following diameters, strand constructions and colour codes match PLP’s catalogue. All conductor diameters are in millimetres.

For example, AFS-143 and AFS-175 both use blue identification marks, although their conductor constructions differ. Consequently, use the complete part number when checking a fitting against your parts list. Colour alone does not identify the correct size.

Holding performance and application

PLP states that its preformed splices hold at least 90% of rated breaking strength on suitable aluminium and aluminium alloy conductors with homogeneous stranding. In this context, homogeneous stranding means strands of the same material, without a separate steel core.

However, that percentage is a holding-strength statement, not a working load for the line. Confirm the required mechanical and electrical performance for the exact conductor, joint location and project specification.

PLP also lists smaller ACSR applications within the wider AFS family, but explicitly requires confirmation of ACSR suitability. Therefore, do not transfer the AAC/AAAC entries above to an ACSR conductor merely because the outside diameter matches. The separate FTS family has its own full-tension ACSR specifications.

Prepare the correct selection

  • First, identify the conductor material, strand count and individual wire diameter.
  • Then match the exact AFS part to the listed conductor construction.
  • Next, describe whether you need to join conductor ends or repair existing damage.
  • Finally, confirm the joint location, required performance and applicable installation instructions.

For a repair, include the extent and position of the damage when seeking advice. This helps the team check whether the specified line splice suits the work. A product photo cannot establish the condition of the conductor or the repair method.

Documents and ordering help

Use the current PLP instructions for the selected splice. In addition, handle the preformed rods carefully and keep them in cartons under cover before installation. PLP specifies installation by qualified line workers and prohibits modifying the fitting.

For reference, see printed pages 44–45 of the PLP distribution catalogue. The listed sizes also appear on printed page 131 of the Engineering Supplies catalogue.
