Description

Bi-metal parallel groove clamps for mixed conductors

Bi-metal parallel groove clamps connect an aluminium run conductor to a copper tap conductor. The forged aluminium body has a friction-welded copper insert, with a blue mark identifying the copper connection. This gives each conductor a contact surface suited to its metal.

The clamps have serrated transverse grooves and galvanised steel bolts. Belleville washers help maintain pressure as the joint heats and cools under cyclic loads. In addition, an oxide inhibitor coating protects the contact surfaces.

Select bi-metal parallel groove clamps

Choose the clamp to suit both sides of the connection. The aluminium run and copper tap can have different size limits, so check each conductor separately. Use both its nominal cross-section and actual outside diameter when checking fit.

The 3919-FS and 3909-FS are also listed as ordering options. Please contact us to confirm the aluminium conductor range for these two models before purchase. This is especially useful when replacing a clamp from an older installation.

Allow space for the clamp

The catalogue lists these overall dimensions as length × breadth × height. Check the available space and leave room to reach the bolts with the required tools.

  • 3911-FS: 40 × 45 × 50 mm; 0.15 kg.
  • 3913-FS: 96 × 57 × 66 mm; 0.44 kg.
  • 3915-FS: 105 × 65 × 76 mm; 0.68 kg.

Connection details and ordering help

For a joint between conductors of the same metal, compare the copper clamp range or aluminium clamp range. Each range has its own conductor limits.

Refer to the Engineering Supplies catalogue for further product details. Follow the applicable installation instructions and the tightening value for the selected model.
