Tension Sleeves

Utilux tension sleeves join overhead conductors where the connection must match the line’s mechanical and electrical requirements. Engineering Supplies offers Type A and Type R full-tension sleeves, plus a separate non-tension sleeve range.

Start by identifying the conductor and whether the joint carries tension. Then compare the sleeve type and conductor outside diameter with the relevant product data.

Utilux tension sleeves and non-tension options

Match the sleeve to the conductor

First, confirm the conductor material, construction and outside diameter. In addition, the Type A and non-tension products use aluminium-alloy tubes with a centre barrier and pre-packed jointing compound.

For Type R sleeves, conductor construction also matters. The listed diameter ranges relate to a high aluminium-to-steel ratio. However, if the conductor has a high steel-to-aluminium ratio, seek a Utilux recommendation before selecting a sleeve.

Next, confirm the crimping tool, die and installation procedure for the exact part. Also, follow the product instructions for conductor preparation and jointing compound. A non-tension sleeve is a separate selection and must match the joint’s intended duty.
